Named Scholarships at Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School

Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School’s Named Scholarships provide more than financial support—they honor legacy, celebrate values, and create life-changing opportunities for today’s students and for generations to come.

Each scholarship below offers a distinct pathway for impact, while advancing our shared mission of access, excellence, and opportunity.

The Bob Catell Scholars Program

Engineering Opportunity. STEM Futures. A Legacy of Leadership.

The Bob Catell Scholars Program honors Robert B. Catell—former Board Chair, longtime trustee—by opening doors to careers in engineering and STEM. A lifelong engineer and former Chairman & CEO of Brooklyn Union Gas, KeySpan, and National Grid, Bob exemplifies leadership rooted in service. Launched in his honor, the Bob Catell Scholars Program is a bold initiative designed to provide scholarships to 25 Cristo Rey Brooklyn students, preparing the next generation of engineers and STEM leaders.

The Dinos Iordanou Memorial Fund

Supporting the Next Generation of Leaders

Dinos Iordanou arrived in New York City from Cyprus in 1969, worked long hours pumping gas while pursuing his studies at NYU. Through grit, determination, and faith in education, he built an extraordinary career in the global reinsurance industry, culminating in the co-founding of Vantage Risk in 2020. To honor his life and values, executives from Carlyle, Hellman & Friedman, and Vantage Risk, one of our extraordinary corporate work-study partners, have contributed a leadership gift of $210,000 to Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School—an institution deeply aligned with Dinos’s belief in opportunity, hard work, and leadership.

The Dwyer-Schroth Scholarship Fund

Journalism. Justice. Truth in Service of Others.

The Dwyer–Schroth Scholarship Fund honors the lives and legacies of Jim Dwyer, Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist, and Father Ray Schroth, S.J., Jesuit priest, professor, and mentor to generations of writers. Established by their friends and family, this endowed scholarship supports Cristo Rey Brooklyn students with a passion for journalism and storytelling as tools for social justice, enabling them to work in journalism or media organizations that may not otherwise be able to host a Cristo Rey Brooklyn student.
